The crash that is happening is the ol' Win 3.1 equivalent of a "General Protection Fault" (everyone remember those?) but whether that's the game running out of memory or a bug induced by lack of memory I'm not qualified to say. One thing to consider is that MSTS is designed to run on 15 year old equipment.Open Rails is not. Open Rails will always require more oomph from your system than MSTS ever will. It isn't really fair to compare Open Rails and MSTS with regard to memory requirements and crashes, as they both use memory in pretty different ways.

Also, I do not feel with my current settings that I am by any means pushing the limits of the game, and yet it continues to go belly up. I have a rather old computer to be sure, however, the reason I find this to be very fishy is that I can run activities in MSTS that are much more complicated with many AI trains in areas with dense scenery, and the program almost NEVER crashes, except due to legitimate errors. Performances is ranging from 20 to 40 FPS. Sometimes within a minute or two, sometimes after 20 minutes, for no apparent reason, the simulator crashes. I also have a Dump File using various categories from the "Evaluation" tab, but I feel that is not all that helpful for this. While searching the forums on here for solutions, I tried removing all "FRED's" (flashing rear end devices) from my trains just to see if it would help, but it not. These crashes also happen frequently in Explore Mode (but slightly less often). But I have had crashes in just about every camera view, including the cabview, with or without an AI train in the immediate vicinity. I suspect this is linked to OR not using system resources properly, and I have seen several prior threads where users encounter this error even on systems with much more RAM than mine.įor the record, this specific crash happened when I moved the camera back to my helpers and was just rotating the camera.

But with OR, it just explodes all of a sudden. To add to my concern, it seems that with MSTS, users with less beefy systems mostly just experienced lower frame rates. But as mentioned before, I find it very odd that I can run much more resource-intensive activities in MSTS for hours on end without a crash. If it is an issue with my system, I would love to hear a specific explanation for this. Is this due to my system having relatively little RAM? The reason I find this odd is that I never saw the RAM usage get to a very high value, always less than half of my 2 GB. There are a plethora of other secondary issues that I am running into, but I will stick to just this for now.
#Trainz simulator 12 crashes manual
The junction where the helpers pull out of is controlled by signals, so I have to switch consists and switch between normal and Manual mode several times. Attached is a log file from an activity of mine on my in-progress Mullan Pass route, in which I start out stopped, drive a couple miles, stop my train, split it in two, pull the front half forward, cut-in mid-train helpers, recouple, and then start up the grade. Unfortunately I have been plagued by very frequent crashes, to the point where I can hardly play the game for more than a few minutes before getting the same old "Other memory is corrupt" error message, which I am unable to interpret.
